In the framework of the European Skills4VET project, the partnership has been inspired to create the “How to App-skill VET trainers” Digital Roadmap. Essentially this result will be a mapping of the steps that VET trainers need to follow to encourage VET learners to engage in mobilities and apprenticeships. Through apprenticeships, young people are equipped with the skills they need to enhance their employability in the labour market.
Although young people now tend to have a higher level of education than previous generations (for example 25 years ago), surveys indicate that they find it difficult to secure jobs that match their qualifications. This is precisely because education alone is no longer sufficient to ensure a job that matches their skills. (Cuzzocrea, 2015)
Through the Digital Roadmap, the partnership wants to link the needs of the labour market with the skills that young people need to acquire to increase their chances of finding a job worthy of their qualifications. In addition, through innovative methodologies, the application will achieve significant synergies between adult educators and enterprises.
According to Eurostat 2021 report, young people find it easier to join the workforce as they get older and gain more experience. However, for European standards as shown in the figure above, students or apprentices have low employability rates. The partnership therefore addressed the existing needs of young people in the EU and designed a result that will integrate work-based learning into adult education.
So to provide an answer to the question why have we decided to create the “How to App-skill VET trainers” Digital Roadmap, is because it is an innovative solution capable of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical skills that young people need to possess in order to be more competitive in the labour market. This initiative promises to be a powerful catalyst for the economic prosperity of the European Union.
By providing a comprehensive guide for adult trainers, the application will enhance the effectiveness of the apprenticeships and facilitate the recruitment of trainees by the companies participating in the network.
