Station 4
Quality Frameworks for Defining Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes refer to the things that the learner will be capable of at the end of a training activity. Those help the learner understand the objective of the course but also offer a clear vision of what should be the knowledge, skills and competencies associated with a learning unit. Attempts or homogenisation are done at the EU level for the description of learning outcomes, to ease the use of this tool across countries. The learning outcomes must be defined prior to the course, and taking into account the employers’ needs, to guarantee that the vocational education really answers the labour market needs. In this station, we will review existing and standardised competence frameworks but also go deeper into the different existing framework that supports VET institutions in the definition of learning outcomes that ease mutual understanding. We will see, among others, tools that are specifically developed for the VET context, such as EQAVET, which is about guaranteeing high quality in VET.
